Mockingbird Elementary

Mockingbird Elementary – Stop #6 on the Dallas ISD Tour!

Yesterday’s visit to Mockingbird Elementary was nothing short of unforgettable.

This school holds such a special place in my heart—over 10% of their students are hearing impaired, and that made this experience all the more powerful. I adjusted my performance to make sure the music could be felt, turning up the volume just enough so the beat vibrations could ripple through the space. The students felt it, you could see it in their faces, their movement, their excitement. It was pure joy.

They were completely tuned into the story and music, and to top it all off… they made me play hide and seek for the last 10 minutes before dismissal! I haven’t run that fast since high school. What a blast.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Hemminger and all the incredible teachers who made this visit so meaningful—and for the surprise Canes lunch! Your warmth and dedication to your students was truly inspiring.

Each school I visit reminds me why Miles for Music exists. This isn’t just about songs—it’s about connection, creativity, and making every child feel seen and celebrated.

We’re halfway through our 12-school Dallas ISD tour, and the impact just keeps growing. Let’s keep that momentum going.

Playing piano alongside ASL Interpreter for the Hearing Impaired Students. Such a cool experience!
